The North Queensland International Medical Graduates Preparation Program

Townsville Hospital and Health Service is offering eligible International Medical Graduates (IMGs) a vocational work experience opportunity that involves 12 weeks of supervised practice to better equip and support IMGs for entry into Australia healthcare, and more specifically North Queensland.

The program includes:

• Core knowledge modules
• Core skills workshops
• Core placement under supervision.

Program Overview & Eligibility

This 12-week program is designed to help internationally trained medical professionals gain recency of practice here in Australia. It is not an observership, and successful applicants will receive support from our team in obtaining limited or provisional registration with AHPRA.

Each year, we offer three (3) program cohorts, with three (3) separate application intakes.

Mandatory Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Primary Medical degree outside of Australia
• Not currently working as a medical practitioner in Australia
• Passed AMC Part 1
• Eligible for provisional or limited registration with Ahpra
• Previously practised medicine for more than two years overseas
• Must hold current Australian Visa (with no working restrictions/limitations)
• Met English Language Skills as per Ahpra registration standards
• Visa date covers period of program.

Preferred Criteria - Not Mandatory

While not mandatory, preference may be given to applicants who meet the following:

• Living in Qld
• Living in NQ (more preferred)
• Have provisional or limited registration with Ahpra
• Completed AMC part 2
• Graduated within the last 5 years

If your application is successful, you will be required to pay a deposit by a set deadline, and the full program fee before program commencement. You will also be required to cover the cost of your AHPRA registration fee, which is also due by a specified date based on your cohort placement.
