Diabetes and Endocrinology
The Townsville HHS Diabetes and Endocrine Centre promotes prevention, detection, treatment and management of diabetes in both adult and pediatric patients and their families. The centre offers a clinical service including health promotion, information, counselling, school visits, support to teachers and carers and education to all people affected by diabetes. The HHS also provides specialist out-patient clinics and inpatient management where required. We are a nationally accredited Diabetes Centre.
Our department also sees patients with adult and peadiatric endocrine disorders including pituitary, adrenal, thyroid, bone and reproductive disorders and is well supported by nuclear medicine and pituitary (neurosurgeons) and endocrine surgeons.
The team also supports general medicine and endocrine disorders in pregnancy with the obstetric medicine unit.
