What to bring
Patients coming to Townsville University Hospital overnight should pack the following items:
- admission advice
- completed admission form
- night attire (you may bring your own or use a gown provided by the hospital – please label your belongings with your name)
- dressing gown and slippers
- consider bringing a sleep mask and ear plugs to help you sleep
- a small amount of money for personal needs such as taxi fare home
- any prescription medicine
- Medicare Card
- Pension Card
- Health Care Card
- name and contact number for your next of kin
A bedside locker is situated next to each bed for your personal belongings; however, we strongly recommend that you do not bring any valuables to hospital.
While you can be assured that our staff will take every care, the hospital cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to any property you keep at your bedside.
Hospitals don’t use the traditional ‘first-come first-served’ approach when it comes to treating patients. Hospitals triage, or sort, patients based on how urgently they need to be seen. This means patients with immediate or life-threatening illness or injury will be seen before patients with less-serious problems. While every effort is made to see patients for their scheduled appointment or surgery, sometimes emergencies may mean we have to reschedule. In the event that your appointment or surgery is rescheduled, we will let you know as soon as possible and fit you in at the earliest available time slot.
