Audiology
The Townsville Hospital and Health Service audiology department provides diagnostic audiology services for infants, children, and adults in the North Queensland community.
The team works across a variety of clinical areas and specialises in hearing assessments for infants and complex patients, as well as adults with hearing and balance problems.
Townsville Hospital and Health Service operates the only public cochlear implant program outside of south-east Queensland and cares for patients all the way to Cape York, west to Mount and south to Sarina. Other special services include paediatric diagnostic audiology service for the North as part of state-wide newborn hearing screening program (Healthy Hearing), childhood hearing clinic, tele-audiology and tele-mapping, and balance clinic for audiology patients.

A clinical review into the paediatric audiology care delivered to 400 babies and children by Townsville University Hospital is complete.
The review was commissioned following an audit of audiological care delivered to two groups of children - babies who required follow-up after their newborn hearing screen and children whose cochlear implant was programmed at the hospital.
The health service or Queensland Health contacted families if there were concerns about the care their child received.
Families impacted by this review can contact 4433 7902 for further support.
