The Townsville HHS Gerontology Department is a multidisciplinary unit with staff specially trained in caring for the elderly in the North Queensland community.

• Acute Medical care to patients in Medical Ward 5 (delirium-dementia)

• Orthogeriatric shared care program
• GEMitH (GEM in the Home)
• Interim Care Awaiting Placement at Good Shepherd Home
• Transition care program (Elder Care Team provides this discharge service)
• Comprehensive research and training program
• Adjunct lectureship with JCU Medical School
• Falls and balance
• Outpatient Telehealth Service to rural and remote areas
• Inpatient Telehealth Service to rural and remote hospital within catchment area
• Specialist clinics - 65 years or older (55+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander).
