Digital donation keeps residents connected

Residents of Parklands Residential Aged Care Facility now have more ways to connect with their family thanks to a generous donation of five refurbished iPads from the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS).

Parklands director of nursing Pamela Cronin said the iPads were a welcome addition to the recreation activities on offer for residents.

“Keeping our residents connected to their families is so important, particularly during the current pandemic,” Pamela said.

“The iPads mean that residents can see their loved ones, even if they are out of town or if a family member is unwell and unable to visit.

“Residents also use the iPads for games, which is a great way to keep their minds active.”

Parklands’ resident Thelma Veivers said she was looking forward to learning how to use the device.

“I’m always up for a challenge and it will be interesting to learn how to use one; I figure if the grandkids and great grandkids can use one so can I,” Thelma laughed.

“It’s also nice to have something different.”

QAS assistant commissioner Robbie Medlin said he was delighted the iPads would be getting a second life and helping the elderly stay connected with their loved ones.

“Having non-physical means of accessing family and friends is vital during this period and the QAS is glad to contribute to keeping the community in touch,” he said.

Pamela said they were grateful for the donation.

“Thank you so much to the QAS; this is going to make a really big difference.”
